“Awake” started as a personal project: an exploration of the future of illustration, in which new technologies allow objects to respond to the environment and to the observer. Paintings come to life and viewers become active users: they need to engage to fully grasp the meaning and soul of the art piece.

This piece is intended as the first of an interactive series using sensorial triggers and light. The image is painted on white paper with Bare Conductive, a cutting edge conductive ink, able to sense touch and proximity. The ink is connected, behind the canvas, to an Arduino, which processes each paint sensor. Finally, hand-drawn animations are connected to each input via Processing, triggered by the observer’s touch and projection-mapped on the canvas.

Bare conductive then reached out to produce a second, expanded Awake painting to use for product demonstration and marketing purposes. I designed and directed the piece, and the Bare Conductive team fabricated and connected it using Bare conductive ink and boards.

The project t has been published by Arduino, Bare Conductive, and Ignant.

x BARE CONDUCTIVE
Expanding on Awake 1.0, I introduced colors and many more marine characters in a 5ft long canvas. The project was commissioned and fabricated by Bare Conductive. The tutorial and installation videos can be found on their website at this link
